Taking his mother’s advice to enjoy the little things in life, a young boy in the charming French countryside embarks with a stolen garden gnome on an inquisitive quest to find just that.

THE STORY

Looking to his family for guidance, young Leftie moves through the world with a restless curiosity, trying to find his place in a confusing world. Told through a childhood lens, the film pairs the quiet beauty of the French countryside with the very real, often invisible anxieties of growing up.

Written, directed, shot, and edited by Noam Rignault Clement, the story was shaped by Noam’s own experience as a French-American with learning disabilities. This film marks Noam’s fourth festival-selected short and his second collaboration with his younger brother in a leading role.

Noam's short, “The Wooden Heart” (2024), which he also wrote, directed, filmed, and edited, won Best Short Film at the 2025 NATAS National Student Production Awards (NATAS is also the organization behind the Emmy® Awards), the Best Drama Award from the 2025 Student Television Network: Film Excellence competition, and an Exceptional Award from the 2025 Bay Area Creative Youth competition.

“The Buttercup Mafia” (2025), which Noam wrote, directed, and edited, earned him a Best Director nomination at the 2025 All American High School Film Festival and was screened at the 2025 Mill Valley Film Festival. Noam was also an Emerging Talent nominee at the 2024 All-American High School Film Festival for his first film, “Fragments” (2024), which he wrote, directed, and edited.

Noam is an active member of the UC Berkeley Business and Film Association (BAFA), and the Special Projects Group (SPG) as part of the UC Berkeley Cinematic Arts and Production Studios. He also works on commercial projects with San Francisco-based companies. He is an alum of the UCLA Cinematography Summer Institute and the Marin School of the Arts program.

Noam Rignault Clement

Noam Rignault Clement is an 18-year-old French-American filmmaker and actor attending UC Berkeley. His narrative work, which explores the complexities of childhood, growing up, neurodivergence, and multiculturalism, has received multiple awards and nominations.

His latest short film, “Little Things” (2025), which he wrote, directed, filmed, and edited, is being screened at the 2026 San Francisco International Film Festival and was presented at the 2026 National Film Festival for Talented Youth (NFFTY).

Noam is currently in pre-production for his next short film “it ends with snails,” which touches on social justice and untangling interconnected lives through a childhood lens. He is actively seeking partners to bring his vision to life.
